Website Design Prices & Packages in South Africa

dotdigital.co.za
Most web designers in South Africa don't publish their prices. You have to fill in a form, wait for a call, and sit through a pitch before you find out whether they're even in your budget.
That's not how I work.
I'm Tristan, and I run Dot Digital from East London. Every package I offer includes hosting, a domain, a mobile-responsive WordPress build, and technical SEO built in — no retainer, no extras, no surprises. Below you'll find my current website costs in South Africa, what each package includes, and answers to the questions SA business owners ask me most.

What Does a Website Cost in South Africa? (The Honest Answer)

Website design prices in South Africa range from R1,200 for a basic template site to R60,000 or more for a custom ecommerce build. That's a wide range — and it's confusing if you don't know what drives the difference.
The short answer: page count, design complexity, and whether you need ecommerce functionality are the three biggest factors. A 5-page small business website built on WordPress sits between R5,000 and R15,000 for most reputable SA agencies. That's the range you're shopping in if you want a professional result without paying for features you don't need.
Web design costs in South Africa also vary by what's included. Some agencies quote a low build price then charge separately for hosting, domain registration, SSL, and SEO. At Dot Digital, the build includes setup of your hosting and domain — you won't be hit with hidden configuration fees on top of the build price. Ongoing hosting and domain renewal costs apply, but these are transparent and discussed upfront. Technical SEO is also included in every package — something most competitors sell as a monthly retainer on top of the build cost.

What Affects the Cost of a Website in South Africa?

If you've been quoted wildly different prices by different agencies, this is why. Six factors drive almost every pricing variation in the SA web design market.

Number of Pages

A 3-page site costs less than a 10-page site. More pages means more design work, more content structure, and more development time. Be clear on how many pages you actually need before requesting quotes.

Custom vs Template Design

A template speeds up the build and reduces cost. A custom design is built from scratch to your brand — it takes longer and costs more. Both can look professional. The difference is uniqueness and flexibility.

Ecommerce Functionality

Adding a shop changes the scope significantly. Ecommerce builds require far more pages and templates than a standard site — product pages, category layouts, cart and checkout flows all need to be individually built, on top of payment gateway integration, stock management, and order notifications. WooCommerce is the most cost-effective ecommerce option for SA small businesses.

Content Supply

If you supply your own copy and images, the build is faster and cheaper. If you need copywriting or photography sourced, that adds to the cost. Most SA agencies — including Dot Digital — quote on the assumption that you supply your content unless otherwise agreed.

Features and Integrations

Booking systems, membership areas, custom calculators, live chat, CRM integrations — every added feature adds development time. Stick to what your business actually needs at launch. You can always add features later.

POPIA Compliance

Every South African website that collects personal data needs a privacy policy and cookie consent setup to comply with POPIA. This is a legal requirement, not an optional extra. It's included in every Dot Digital build.

Why Dot Digital Pricing Is Competitive in South Africa

There are cheaper options out there. There are also far more expensive ones. Here’s why Dot Digital sits where it does — and why that’s good for you.

I’m based in East London. My operating costs are lower than a Johannesburg or Cape Town agency running a city office with account managers and a sales team. That saving gets passed directly to you — not absorbed into overhead.

Every build includes technical SEO as standard. Most agencies either skip it entirely or sell it as a monthly retainer starting from R2,000 upward. You get it built into your site from day one, at no extra cost. That’s a genuine structural difference, not a marketing claim.

I work on WordPress and Bricks Builder — a combination that builds faster than bespoke dev work without sacrificing quality or flexibility. Faster builds mean fewer hours billed. You’re not paying for a learning curve or an inefficient process.

"You deal with me directly. No account managers. No junior handoffs."

And you deal with me directly. No account manager taking your brief and handing it to a junior. No communication layers adding time and cost. What you brief is what gets built.

Affordable web design for small business doesn’t mean cutting corners. It means running a lean operation and charging for work, not for offices. As a web design company in South Africa, that’s what we’re built on.

Pricing & Packages — Common Questions

A 5-page website from a reputable SA agency typically costs between R6,000 and R15,000 once-off. At Dot Digital, a 5-page build falls within the Small Business package — price confirmed by Tristan before publishing. That package includes WordPress, custom design, mobile responsiveness and technical SEO.
At Dot Digital, technical SEO is included in every build — clean code, fast load times, proper meta data, XML sitemap, and Google Search Console setup. This is not standard across the industry. Most agencies either skip SEO entirely or charge a separate monthly retainer. You won't get an invoice for SEO on top of your build cost.
A standard small business website takes 2–4 weeks from brief to launch, depending on how quickly content and feedback are supplied. Ecommerce builds typically take 4–6 weeks. The biggest factor in timeline is usually content — the faster you supply copy and images, the faster your site goes live.
Ecommerce websites in South Africa typically cost between R15,000 and R40,000 for a WooCommerce build, depending on the number of products, payment gateway requirements, and design complexity. At Dot Digital, ecommerce is covered in the Ecommerce package — R15,000. You own the store outright, with no monthly platform fees unlike Shopify.
Yes — all my work is done remotely. I work with businesses across South Africa including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, and Durban. Being based in East London is a cost advantage for you, not a limitation. Everything is handled via video call, email, and WhatsApp — same process, same quality, regardless of where you are.
Once your site is live, the main ongoing costs are hosting (typically R499–R799 per month depending on your plan), domain renewal (around R150–R200 per year), and optional maintenance support if you want someone to manage updates and security for you.
